Selecting Bathroom Window Treatments

While the water closet could be the last room you think of when considering window treatments, there is a serious issue to face when you choose this article of home décor. The biggest challenge in a bathroom where window coverings are concerned is not necessarily blocking the sun or increasing energy efficiency: it is selecting a material that stands up to humidity. This is arguably the dampest room in any home (or the dampest rooms if you are lucky enough to have multiple places to shower or take a bath.) Preferable Materials

The best materials for window blinds in bathrooms include vinyl and aluminum. Treated faux wood could also work if it has been sealed for easy wiping. Fabric window coverings are less practical as they are more likely to absorb damp and develop mold and mildew. Slatted blinds (such as the Venetian style) are excellent, as are vinyl roller blinds.

Styles of Bathroom Window Treatments

Otherwise, just about any style is available for your bathroom. Many consumers have only small windows in these parts of the house, so inexpensive ready-made roller blinds are excellent, cost-effective options. For the bathroom that is more of a show-piece (one where you like to light candles and have bubble baths in a luxurious atmosphere), aluminum ready made Roman blinds are elegant, easy to keep clean, and wipe down with minimal effort. They are also durable for long-lasting performance.

You are unlikely to need honeycomb blinds or cellular blinds or anything with black-out properties for the purpose of cutting down on UV exposure or glare: bathrooms rarely suffer from this kind of problem, especially if they really are small. The main consideration after choosing a material is selecting a pattern or color to match tiles, hardware, paint color, and flooring. Window blinds in the bathroom can be useful as style anchors. Select a single color which draws the eye to this same color in mosaics, tile patterns, and other elements of décor.

Privacy is also important so one might wish to install light-filtering bathroom window treatments to cut down on peeping from the neighbors. Slatted, Roman, and roller blinds can be fully effective in this regard.
